Dover, UK
The Allotment – 9 High St (opposite Town Hall), Dover. +44 1304 214467, www.theallotmentdover.com. Pleasant, quiet restaurant with good, home-cooked food. On weekend evenings best to book.
The Fourth Musketeer – directly across the main (busy) road from Wellington Dock, Dover Marina. Small, cheap and cheerful but clean cafe that serves good value traditional English breakfasts.
Gravelines, France
La Symphonie – Rue de la Republique 10, Gravelines. +33 32823 2823, www.lasymphonie.fr. Good food and French style. One of the few places to be open on a Sunday evening.
Sneek, Friesland
t’Vaticaan – Grootzand 10, 8601 AW Sneek. +31 515 432 607. www.restaurantvaticaan.nl. Slightly higher priced, but well worth it for high quality food. A popular restaurant however, so if a large group comes in, it’s worth ordering a starter to manage the wait. The statuary can sometimes be slightly off-putting if you are religious!
